Maxine Amaru (she/her)

MSW Mentee

Maxine Amaru (she/her) is an MSW Mentee and Research Mentee at the H.E.R. Multimedia Lab at San Diego State University, she is currently pursuing a Master’s in Social Work and a Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPSC), with expected graduation date of May 2026. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Africana Studies and Social Work, with a strong research focus on improving the health and well-being of the Black/Africana American community. Maxine is passionate about addressing systemic inequalities and her career goal is to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). In addition to her academic and research pursuits, Maxine is an active member of the 40plus Double Dutch Club, San Diego chapter, fostering connection and well-being through community engagement.

Fun fact: Maxine is a proud grandmother of three energetic boys, ages 11, 5, and 2.
