Our approach empowers communities by recognizing them as the true experts of their lived experiences. At HER Multimedia Lab, researchers act as facilitators, ensuring that every step of the process is driven by the community’s unique insights and needs. Through this collaboration, we create films that not only tell powerful stories but also uplift the voices at the heart of these narratives.

Informed by Community Participatory Research

Community:

Our process always starts with the community. We engage with community members to understand their needs, perspectives, and experiences.

Research:

The community informs the research. We collaborate with community members to identify key issues and areas of focus, ensuring that the research is relevant and impactful.

Film:

We translate the research into accessible content via a multimedia approach. Using multimedia as our primary tool, we create engaging and culturally informed narratives that communicate the public health research effectively.

Implementation:

The film-based tool is used to effect change within the community. By disseminating the multimedia content and related materials, we aim to raise awareness, educate, and inspire action among community members.

Document and Report Outcomes:

Throughout this process, the voices of those with lived experience are centered. We document the outcomes to measure the impact, inform best-practices, and influence policy.
